Typically managers, supervisors and quality control leads take this course, as well all members of the food safety team. After passing the exam, you can download your completion certificate to show you’ve been trained.

Course Description
ImEPIK’s course is 100% online, which means it can be taken at any time and from anywhere with a reliable internet connection. The course teaches employees what they need to know to comply with the law and produce high-quality, safe food for global consumers.
PCQI Online Includes:
- The latest guidance on FSMA’s PCHF Rule – a lot has changed since the rule’s 2015 release.
- The FDA’s Standardized Curriculum.
- Product-specific content for those making baked goods, produce, dairy, cannabis-infused edibles or ready-to-eat to foods. No other PCQI course allows you to customize your course with content specific to the products you make.
The course supports the learning experience with voice-over-narration, animated videos, sequential content, and the ability to go back and review information missed on assessments. You’ll also be able to download an online study manual for free that covers specific regulations, GMPs, and supplementary material for each module.
The course culminates when trainees develop a food safety plan outline and take the final examination.
Trainees will have 6 months to complete the course.

What does FSMA's Preventive Controls for Human Food Rule Require?
CFR (Code of Regulation_ Section §117.180 (c) (1): “to be a preventive controls qualified individual, the individual must have successfully completed training in the development and application of risk-based preventive controls at least equivalent to that received under a standardized curriculum recognized as adequate by the FDA or otherwise qualified through job experience to develop and apply a food safety system. Job experience may qualify an individual to perform these functions if such experience has provided an individual with knowledge at least equivalent to that provided through the standardized curriculum. This individual may be, but is not required to be, an employee of the facility.”
Each FDA-registered facility must designate a PCQI who is responsible for the development, oversight and management of the Food Safety Plan. The PCQI is required to have training and experience that exceeds existing HACCP-based systems.
FAQs
When we say the course is “100% Online,” we mean that it’s self-paced and does not require you to schedule a virtual classroom session or attend a webinar. You do the training on your time, whenever you want and from wherever you and your computer/tablet are located.
Most other PCQI offerings are either in-person courses or are partially online and require scheduling additional sessions to earn your completion certificate. ImEPIK’s course is 100% online and totally self-paced, which means you can avoid stringent schedules or limited seating in virtual classrooms.
There is no official accreditation or course endorsement required for a PCQI course to be considered legitimate. The FDA also does not legally require a course from a specific organization to become a Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI).
They do, however, ask that courses include the FDA’s Standard Curriculum and ImEPIK’s PCQI Online does include the FDA’s curriculum. There is also no requirement that your training certificate come from the FSPCA.
At the end of the day, an auditor or inspector will look at the quality of your facility’s food safety plan and how well you’re implementing your programs and protocols. Deficiencies in these areas will often indicate that a PCQI needs additional training.
Yes, when you complete PCQI Online you’ll receive a certificate of completion. This certificate is important as it is used as proof that you’ve been trained in the concepts defined under FSMA.
FDA inspectors and independent auditors alike accept the completion certificate you earn after completing PCQI Online.
You will automatically receive a completion certificate once you pass the final exam and there is no additional cost.
We get this question a lot. Technically, there is no accredited certification program for PCQIs. What does exist is a standard training curriculum developed under the direction of the FDA, and that curriculum is included in ImEPIK’s PCQI Online training.
When food safety and quality professionals claim they are “PCQI certified,” what they mean is that they’ve earned a certificate showing that they’ve completed training.
